Joseph Anthony Germanotta Jr., a businessman and director of an Internet-based company was her father. She grew up in the prestigious Upper East Side of Manhattan in the middle of a Catholic family. Due to this her parents were enrolled in at the Convent of the Sacred Heart an eminent religious school. The music was her love since childhood. She started playing the piano when she was just a little girl. When she was thirteen she wrote her first song. She took part in the open mic night. Her most favored artists included David Bowie, Madonna and Michael Jackson. When she graduated from high school she enrolled at the New York University's Tisch School of Art to pursue a degree in music. After high school, however and entering the Tisch School for Arts at New York University in order to study music.
